Do It With Thy Might

“When you leave this place … be sure to come back. Coming back enables you to see how all the dots in your life are connected, how one twist of fate, good or bad, brings you to a door that later takes you to another door, which, aided by several detours — long hallways and unforeseen stairwells — eventually puts you in the place you are now.” – Ann Patchett

It’s hard to believe ten years ago I was this person. It feels like another world and another lifetime, but also a moment ago. To quote one of my favorite documentaries, “it’s very difficult to keep the line between the past and the present.”

Dude. Why is it hard to believe? You had to be THAT person to become the person you are today. And, ya know what? For the most part, it just keeps getting better.

I get a bit sick to my stomach when I think back to that person that I was, so unhappy, so tortured in my own skin (and, I’ll blame most of it on my parents who role modeled that very behavior). I have the Ann Patchett book, I think you told me about it. It sits by my bedside waiting to be read. The author has such a lovely way with words. Think it’s because she’s suhthen or just because she’s lovely?

Enjoy the day, whomever you are.

And one of these days, let’s compare notes on the HS reunion trail. I’M NOT GOING TO MINE and yes, I’m shouting. xoxo UT.
